A Campus for Everyone: UNESA Rector Nurhasan Leads Massive Ramadan Giving in Magetan
In a powerful demonstration of academic social responsibility, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) Campus 5 in Maospati, Magetan, hosted a large-scale community iftar event on Friday, March 6, 2026, distributing 5,000 free iftar packages to students and residents while providing financial assistance to 250 orphaned children, a heartfelt act of solidarity that resonated far beyond the campus gates.
The event, held under the theme "Merajut Harmoni Ramadan: Sinergi Civitas Akademika Kampus UNESA 5 dan Pemerintah Daerah dalam Penguatan Kepedulian Sosial dan Keberkahan Bersama," drew thousands of attendees including students, lecturers, local government officials, and members of the surrounding Maospati community,all gathering at the Main Gate of UNESA Campus 5 for a shared moment of reflection and generosity.
The initiative was spearheaded by the civitas academica of UNESA Campus 5, working hand-in-hand with the Magetan Regency Government. Among those present were UNESA Rector Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, Vice Rector for General Affairs Prof. Dr. Bachtiar Sjaiful Bachri, Magetan Regent Hj. Nanik Endang Rusminiarti, M.Pd., and members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda). The event was further enlivened by student performing arts units and an entrepreneurship bazaar featuring local MSMEs supported by the Magetan Regency Government.
At its core, the event was a living embodiment of UNESA's commitment to the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, the three pillars of Indonesian higher education: teaching, research, and community service. Rector Nurhasan emphasized that the campus belongs not just to its academic community, but to society at large.
"Alhamdulillah kita disini selain membagikan 5000 takjil gratis juga memberikan 250 santunan kepada anak yatim, kegiatan ini merupakan komitmen kami kepada masyarakat memberikan edukasi dan dedikasi, dan perlu diketahui bahwa kampus UNESA ini bukan hanya milik kita, kampus ini milik kita semua termasuk masyarakat." said Nurhasan.
He further articulated UNESA's vision of Ramadan as a transformative moment, stating: "Kami dan seluruh sivitas akademika dapat berpartisipasi aktif, menjadikan momentum Ramadan sebagai ruang refleksi, penguatan karakter, dan pengabdian nyata kepada masyarakat." The Rector also underscored the deeper philosophical purpose behind the event: "Orientasi dari Tri Dharma perguruan tinggi pada akhirnya adalah kemaslahatan masyarakat. Kami berharap semua yang hadir bisa merasakan kebahagiaan dan kebersamaan dalam kegiatan ini."
From an SDGs perspective, this initiative powerfully advances multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The distribution of 5,000 iftar packages directly addresses SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by ensuring access to food for vulnerable community members during Ramadan. The financial assistance provided to 250 orphans aligns with SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), targeting society's most marginalized.
