UNESA's Practitioner Lecture Program Enhances Learning Quality with Real-World Industry Experience
Magetan, November 7, 2025 — The Practitioner Lecture program held by the English Literature Department at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) Campus 5 once again impressed students by bringing in industry professionals to teach. The event, held at the UNESA-5 Magetan campus, featured several practitioners from diverse professional backgrounds, offering valuable insights and experience to students of the 2024 batch, particularly in the Speaking for Debating course.
Introducing Industry Experience to Students
This Practitioner Lecture program was designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn from real-world experiences in the industry. One of the key practitioners in this session was Haris Firdaus, an alumnus of UNESA who now works as an officer at PT. Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia, Tbk., with over a decade of experience. Haris taught the Speaking for Debating course, where students not only learned theory but also practiced speaking skills in the context of debates, enriched by real-life experiences brought by the practitioners.
Bridging the Gap Between Education and the Workforce
The aim of this program is to connect academic education at UNESA with the demands of the workforce. In this case, the Speaking for Debating course, taught by industry practitioners, provided a more practical understanding for students. They had the chance to learn directly from the real-world experiences of the practitioners, making them more prepared and skilled to face challenges in the professional world after graduation.
Positive Impact on the SDGs Goals
This Practitioner Lecture program is highly relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG No. 4: Quality Education, which seeks to provide equitable and quality education for all. By involving industry practitioners, students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills and experiences needed in the workforce.
Additionally, this initiative supports SDG No. 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by preparing students for the workforce through teaching based on real-world experiences. The program significantly contributes to the development of human resources, leading to the creation of broader and more diverse job opportunities, especially in the creative industries and other sectors.
Enhancing Student Competence with Real-World Experience
Through this program, UNESA demonstrates its commitment to producing graduates who excel not only in theory but are also ready to face the challenges of the workforce. With experienced practitioners sharing their knowledge, students gain a wider perspective and more applicable skills, which will enhance their competence in the global job market.
With the success of this program, UNESA continues to strive for higher-quality educational experiences, focusing on the development of student skills that can be directly applied in their professional lives.
