Practical Lecturer Program: Enhancing Student Skills Through Teaching from Experienced Practitioners
Magetan, November 10, 2025 — The Practical Lecturer Program organized by the English Literature Study Program of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) Kampus 5 Magetan brings a new experience to the students of the 2025 cohort. This program involves five practitioners from various professional backgrounds, aiming to enrich students' knowledge and skills in various courses, particularly in Intensive Reading and Writing.
This program involves five practitioners who teach in five different courses. One of the courses, Intensive Reading and Writing, focuses on the development of intensive reading and writing skills. The students involved in this program are from the 2025 cohort of the English Literature Study Program, and they have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced practitioners. One of the lecturers, Sutri Ekawati, is an alumnus of UNESA, currently working as a teacher at a public school in Madiun. She has also received a Fullbright scholarship to the United States.
The program is held at UNESA Kampus 5, Magetan, on Monday, November 10, 2025, and will continue with several meetings throughout November. This program is designed to provide students with practical insights into the professional world and to introduce them to various industry experiences relevant to their field of study. Moreover, the program aims to improve teaching quality by involving practitioners with extensive experience in their fields.
In the Intensive Reading and Writing course, Sutri Ekawati provides direct lessons to students with a very practical approach, based on her teaching experience of over ten years and her international achievements. Other practitioners also provide teaching in various other courses, bringing new, more applicable perspectives based on experience.
This program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education. Through collaboration with practitioners, students are given the opportunity to receive relevant and high-quality education, as well as the skills needed in the professional world. Furthermore, this program supports Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by preparing students to directly contribute to the workforce.
By involving experienced practitioners, the program also strengthens the relationship between education and industry, helping students to understand the real challenges in the professional world, and encouraging them to be ready for future developments.
This program is a concrete example of innovation in education, focusing not only on theory but also emphasizing the importance of practical experience, which can positively contribute to the quality of human resources in Indonesia.
